The congregation was organized in 1922 with a membership of 15 people. The original church was built in the same year and located at the southwest corner of 159th Street and Oak Avenue. The congregation was served by student pastors until July 1957, when the first full time pastor, the Reverend William Henzlik, was appointed.
Through its 75-year history, the Oak Forest United Methodist Church has always sought to bring the love of Christ to the community. The congregation continued to grow and expand its ministries. New land was purchased for a much larger church at 159th and Lorel. In 1973 the church founded the Oak Forest Preschool and was instrumental in founding the helping agency, “Together We Cope.”

Today you can see this beautiful cross created from the original stain glass hanging in the center window of the sanctuary at Faith United Methodist Church.
Created by Annette Powell, may the cross serve as a beautiful memory for our members that came from Oak Forest UMC and continue to reflect the love we all feel for one another and our community here at Faith.
