Pumpkin spice lattes, cookies, cream cheese, gnocchi, samosas, yogurt, coffee creamer, cinnamon rolls, popcorn, cereal, M&M’s, jellybeans, donuts and cake. And then there’s just plain pumpkin bread, pie, bisque, butter, ice cream, cheesecake, and sourdough bread. Phew!!! Can there be any more of a hint that it’s FALL? I love most of the aforementioned things, but the pumpkin spice craze has gotten a little out of control! How many more pumpkin items can we handle? Yet there is NO question—Fall is upon us!
In the church, at least for pastors and church leadership, this means financial stewardship, nominations and budget discussions as we prepare for 2027, hoping to get everything in order before “the holidays.” October also means the Pet Blessing, Worldwide Communion Sunday, resuming Connect and Family Fun, Trunk or Treat, small group studies, and although not necessarily church-related, but fun nonetheless—fuzzy socks, sweaters, apple picking and football games.
As we move into October we are focusing on our mission: Faith UMC is a church family dedicated to bringing people to Jesus Christ through worship, education, mission and fellowship. Beginning October 18th we will begin a new series entitled “Love One Another” based on the verse from Jesus’ farewell discourse which is “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”
We are bombarded by so many voices in our daily lives, competing for our attention. Often, those voices are not encouraging or positive. But Jesus’ call to his disciples is simply to love one another. This series will help us envision what true Christian community is about and how to embody loving our neighbor. Keep your eyes peeled for ways you can share this message in the community through some fun merch—t-shirts, hoodies, and yard signs!
I look forward to seeing you soon!
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Jenny
